Western outfits are totally acceptable and infact worn by Indians in all main cities like Delhi, Mumbai, or Bangalore , and worn by many young Indians. However, in many tourist destinations like Rajasthan, we recommend that you may dress modestly. These dresses include long skirts, half or full sleeves, a stole /shawl/scarf to cover the head in religious places, higher necklines for women and informal /formal pants/capris for men.
In most regions, India mostly has warm to very hot weather.
Northern India:
- April to Mid July :The weather is hot before monsoons. Light cotton are recommended at this time.
- October to March :The weather is pleasant. Lighter woolens will do.
Central, Eastern, and Southern Indian states have a warm and humid climate and are recommended to visit from September through February. Light cottons or even light woolens (for areas closer to the Western Ghats, e.g. Ooty and Kodaikanal) are good.
If you plan to go on a jeep safari in India, it is definitely worth bringing warm clothing as early mornings can be very cold.
